Lymphoedema Awareness Week
This coming Monday marks the start of this year’s Lymphoedema Awareness Week, finished off with World Lymphoedema Day on Saturday 6th March!
The week is all about lymphoedema and lymphatic conditions: providing education and resources, sharing stories, and bringing people together over such an important cause.
To get started, here are some facts and figures about lymphoedema:
- Over 250 million people worldwide have secondary lymphoedema (World Health Organisation, WHO)
- The incidence of primary (genetic) lymphoedema could be as high as 1 in 300 (National Institute of Health, NIH)
- Lymphoedema affects an estimated 15% of all cancer survivors and up to 30% of those treated for breast cancer (American Cancer Society)
Here at LymphActiv, we are a part of the movement to raise awareness of lymphatic conditions, and in particular the importance of physical activity and everyday movement to help sufferers manage their condition, alleviate their symptoms, and have a better quality of life. In order to do so, we have lined up a range of informative blogs to share with you this week. This includes:
Monday 1st March: Symptoms and living with Lymphoedema and/or Lipoedema
Tuesday 2nd March: The steps to effectively manage your lymphatic condition.
Wednesday 3rd March: Lymphoedema & Obesity
Thursday 4th March: Lymphoedema & Cellulitis
Friday 5th March: The importance of Everyday Physical Activity
