Why did I not know how important good lymph flow is to my health and wellbeing?
I have been on this earth a while and was an elite athlete, so how could I not know about the importance of the lymph system to my health? When I sat and listened to Professor Peter Mortimer explain its role in my health I was astonished at the impact – and then I’m told the lymph system has no pump to help my lymph flow! The heart pumps my blood but not my lymph, which only flows effectively when my muscles move. Shouldn’t everyone be aware of this?
We have been evangelising about the merits of everyday physical activity to prevent and improve multiple long term health conditions for years – now another piece of the puzzle as to why movement is so important, has fallen into place.
I have also learnt a little about lymphoedema and lipoedema, and how physical activity is an effective medicine for alleviating the symptoms. We are now determined to help make a difference to the lives of people with these conditions, by enabling self-care and the opportunity to take back a little control.
In the coming weeks our scientific team will be posting further articles about the importance of good lymph flow and we intend to increase awareness by talking more loudly to the wider world about the risks of being sedentary!
